Machu Freaking Picchu

Machu Picchu is even better in person. I can positively say it is one of the coolest things I've seen.
It is one of the 7 wonders of the world after all.

After taking the train in, we spent the night at Aguas Calientes- the small resort town at the base of the peak. It was the cutest little town that totally catered to tourists. Full of gelato, restaurants and markets with souvenirs and gifts.

We woke up early in the morning and got in the long line for bus ride that took us up the windy switchback roads up to the peak.

The morning was surprisingly raining and chilly, luckily though the clouds burned out later in the day to reveal sun and green green mountains surrounding us.

First stop: Wayna Picchu.

Only 400 people are allowed to hike the peak each day, and we got tickets! Wayna Picchu is that main peak you see in all the Machu Picchu pictures and we made it to the very tippy top. The whole way up we had no idea we were hiking THAT mountain. Since the clouds were so thick we didn't even realize the sharp drop offs on every edge of the trail... I think that was a good thing.
The tippy top of Wayna was very cloudy, but we got a few peaks of the old city below. Hiking down we got even clearer views.

As we walked back down to grab some lunch, we finally saw the iconic picture, and I couldn't keep my eyes off of it... or stop taking pictures.

We met up with a guide later as he navigated us through the ruins and taught us more about how the Incans lived the sun shined down and we took nonstop pictures.

Most of the time I couldn't believe my eyes what I was seeing. It was so unreal!

So proud of my mom for killing all those stairs! We were all a little sore the next day, some more than others..... But still highly HIGHLY recommended!
Thanks for the good time Machu Picchu!
